Bertha Gymer
June 07, 2010 · Bertha J. Gymer, 87, passed away on Monday, June 7, at The Rehabilitation Center of Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 11, at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m on Thursday, June 10 at Grandview Park Funeral Home.
Bertha J. Gymer
Bertha Janette Gymer was born the youngest of nine children of Niels and Elizabeth (Schelidon) Nielson in Coon Rapids on October 10, 1922. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1940 and was united in marriage to Orrie Gymer in September 1942 in Fort Hood, TX. They lived in Coon Rapids until moving to Des Moines in 1953. Bertha worked in assembly for AMF Western Tool for 22 years. She retired in 1988.
Bertha enjoyed sitting on her deck, enjoying her wind chimes, gardening, flowers and her coffee club at HyVee on East Euclid.
Bertha is survived by her children, Jannette A. (Robert) Schneider of Pleasant Hill, Jerry C. Gymer (Jenelle Patterson) of Des Moines, Debby (Jack) Stapleton and Lori (Brian) Clark all of Ankeny; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orrie; six brothers, Fred, Frank, Clarence, Floyd, Harold and George and two sisters, Mary Patrick & Hazel Thompson.
